Marlin and Laura Hum

Marlin and Laura Hum

Great shot, Brian, but these are definitely not house finches! They are wrens, quite possible house wrens.

Brian Wallace replied:

Thanks Marlin and Laura Hum, for responding. All I can say is that I called them something else before and got corrected to House Finch. I could see their point of having a thicker beak and figured they could be right. These of course don't show a lot of detail and you seem so "definite". I'm not an ID specialist myself about anything.

Artist's Description

An image of three baby house finches huddled together, sleeping under my awning in Pasadena, Maryland.

The House Finch was originally a bird of the western United States and Mexico. In 1940 a small number of finches were turned loose on Long Island, New York, after failed attempts to sell them as cage birds (“Hollywood finches”). They quickly started breeding and spread across almost all of the eastern United States and southern Canada within the next 50 years.

About Brian Wallace

Brian Wallace

I'm a retired communications instructor/developer, raised on the Eastern Shore of Maryland (USA). I have a wide range of interests which include some artistic talent. My eclectic tastes, thirst for variety, and preference for images over words, eventually lead me through the internet to the world of 3D stereo in 2005. Since I've been with Fine Art America, I've focused primarily on regular photography with a touch of digital manipulation to better compose the images and ideas. Each time I think I've reached a peak, I find myself crossing another threshold that challenges my abilities and talents while paving way to another plateau.
