Time For Art

I'm seeing the sunrise,
more often these days,
In my surly pajamas,
and self deprived craze,

Not because I get up early,
it definitely doesn't pay,
I'm working all hours of the night,
suddenly it's light, suddenly day,

The sun introduces the morning by accident,
it dawns on me the boring time I just spent,
hmmm, fancy seeing you Mr. Sun I quip,
It's surprising how fast the time does slip,

Art can be laborious,
a time consuming chore for us,
the sad fact is, I'm not a whiz,
it can make me happy and make me cuss!

I know it's important to get your art out there,
although I don't push it, I do try to share,
it's why it seems like I'm glued to this chair,
the poor suffering artist, at home in despair,

At times I ask myself,
do they know it's for sale,
am I not aggressive enough,
am I setup to fail,

It's easy to see,
"marketing" just ain't my thing,
though I try in my own way,
no sales does it bring,

My work creating,
is something I adore,
but at times I find,
there are kinds that I deplore,

My art is a part,
of a craving at the core,
a yearning for me,
like hunger to the poor,

I'm not sure why I do it,
the long hours every night,
the tweaking, the seeking,
satisfaction to be right,

Oh look at how much time I've lost,
where's the reward, and what of the cost,
maybe the mere idea is only worth a toss,
So much for being my own slave... my own boss.
