Description
I photographed this example of what might be termed, "Painted Ladies" in Annapolis Maryland on 5-25-16. It's a vertical formatted capture of the porches separated by white banisters. The walls, entrances, windows and trim are of various colors.See below for the history of "Painted Ladies Houses". The structure is showing signs that it's in need of maintenance so I added a bit of textured layering to subtly enhance that appearance.
In American architecture, painted ladies are Victorian and Edwardian houses and buildings repainted, starting in the 1960s, in three or more colors that embellish or enhance their architectural details. Wikipedia
History of The Painted Ladies Houses...
Although the term “Painted Ladies" was first used by writers Elizabeth Pomada and Michael Larsen in their 1978 book Painted Ladies - San Francisco's Resplendent Victorians, this style of row houses was being built beginning in the 1860's.
